Comment and Reply Comment on "Origin of a late Eocene to pre-Miocene buried crater and breccia lens at Fohn-1, North Bonaparte Basin, Timor Sea: A probable extraterrestrial

چکیده
Gorter and Glikson (2000) proposed that the Fohn-1 structure in the Timor Sea north of Australia probably is an impact structure. Examination of their evidence reveals that it is almost impossible to confirm any of their conclusions, as the authors do not provide sufficient detail of their experimental methods. Problems with the presentation of both seismic and geochemical data cast further doubt on their conclusions. Absence of evidence for shock metamorphism and non-chondritic siderophile element patterns in the few samples analysed make it likely that Fohn-1 is neither a probable, nor even a possible, impact structure.

Magnetostratigraphic chronology of a late Eocene to early Miocene glacimarine succession from the Victoria Land Basin, Ross Sea, Antarctica
Drilling offshore from Cape Roberts, Antarctica, has enabled recovery of a 1472-m cumulative record of late Eocene–early Miocene history of sedimentary basin development and climate change in the Western Ross Sea. In this paper, we synthesize the results of palaeomagnetic analyses carried out on the CRP-1, CRP-2 and CRP-3 sediment cores, and present a chronology for the recovered Eocene–Miocene...

New age, petrochemical and structural data indicate that the Banda Terrane is a remnant of a Jurassic to Eocene arc–trench system that formed the eastern part of the Great Indonesian arc. The arc system rifted apart during Eocene to Miocene supra-subduction zone sea floor spreading, which dispersed ridges of Banda Terrane embedded in young oceanic crust as far south as Sumba and Timor. In Timor...
متن کاملRadically Questioning the Principle of the Least Restrictive Alternative: A Reply to Nir Eyal; Comment on “Nudging by Shaming, Shaming by Nudging”
In his insightful editorial, Nir Eyal explores the connections between nudging and shaming. One upshot of his argument is that we should question the principle of the least restrictive alternative in public health and health policy. In this commentary, I maintain that Eyal’s argument undermines only a rather implausible version of the principle of the least restrictive alternative and I sketch ...

Editor, I read the recent publication by Toossi et al. with a great interest (1). Toossi et al. concluded that “Average gonad and bone marrow doses for North Khorasan, Boshehr and Hormozgan provinces were less than the corresponding values for normal area (2).” There are some facts on this report to be concerned. I agree that the detected levels might be high in the mentioned area, but th...

Dear Editor; I wish to thank the authors for their careful comment (1), on our short report entitled “Aluminum Phosphide Poisoning: A Case Series in North Iran” (2). Unfortunately, as we were excited to display the findings of our series, some facts were missed from the methods of the article. The results presented in our series was collected from eight patients with definitive aluminum phosp...
